Each piece is shaped by the light, wind, and season —resulting in a truly unique, wearable artwork. Inspired by Celtic folklore, the sea, and the wild beauty of Wicklow, the designs reflect the organic patterns of ferns, seaweed, and tidal forms.
For the Love of Blue
Hello, I’m Miriam, I have a love for the colour blue, for the beauty and shapes in nature (sun-dried seaweed on a beach, the unfurling of a fern), the sun, the sea, the play of the wind, even the soft Summer rain. (Not so much the lashing cold rain of Winter).
I’m inspired by the dance of seaweed in a rock pool or beneath the waves, the flowers in the breeze. I aim to instil this movement in the pieces I create with the help of Mother Nature.
The Cyanotype process is in essence a photograph, capturing a plant at a particular moment in time. The final blue color is influenced by the sunlight or clouds at that time of day, the developing time in a mixture of sea and fresh water, and the drying process in the wind. Each pieces is unique, just like in nature.
These creations have been burst into life this Summer 2024. They are a acumulation of many years experimenting with cyanotypes, working in design and desire to share the wild essence of nature, and the passing seasons, imbued in these natural fabrics. I hope it resonates with you too.
My Cyanotype Process
I paint the silk with the cyanotype solution, and let it dry. Then I make the pattern with fern, flowers, seaweed. I place a sheet of glass on top and bring it outside to expose it to the sunshine. The UV rays expose the pattern onto the fabric. I then disassembled it and develop in baths of water and dry in the wind. Each one is unique.
“The quality of the fabric is so soft and natural. You can tell how unique each piece is, and that makes every item she sells even more special.”
